Rail passengers returning to work will face ticket rises of nearly 10 per cent tomorrow.
Travellers who get regulated tickets will face rises of 4.8 per cent and others hikes of up to 9.8 per cent.
Commuters buying a standard day return from Oxford to London Paddington will have to fork out £43.10, a 9.67 per cent increase.
Passengers in Oxford were furious to hear First Great Western had given passengers in Swindon and the West Country - where some London-bound prices have been held - a better deal, when the new fares were announced in November.
Passenger group Ox Rail Action labelled the decision a "slap in the face" for Oxford commuters.
Rail campaigners have threatened to fight back by staging a fares strike in protest at the rises.
The campaign would see passengers using dummy tickets printed by commuter campaign group More Trains Less Strain instead of real ones.
Protesters are due to meet in Bath on Tuesday, January 15, to decide a date for strike action.
